One Hour Dinner Rolls
There are some recipes I love trying once, and then there are the recipes that actually make it into the regular rotation. These one hour dinner rolls are definitely the second kind.
And yes, they really do only take ONE hour! That’s probably my favorite thing about them. Homemade bread can sound like such a commitment, especially when you’re already trying to get dinner on the table, but these don’t require you to start thinking about dinner rolls at 2 in the afternoon. From start to finish, you can have warm, homemade rolls on the table in about an hour.
These have become my tried-and-true dinner rolls, and I’ve made them enough times now that I don’t even have to wonder if they’re going to turn out. They’re soft, fluffy, simple, and one of those recipes that makes dinner feel a little more special without actually requiring that much extra work.
I also love that there’s no added sugar in this recipe. You really don’t miss it, and they’re still everything I want a dinner roll to be—soft, warm, buttery, and perfect for swiping through whatever is left on your dinner plate.
The regular recipe is perfect for our family, but if I’m making them for a dinner party or holiday, I almost always double it. These rolls have made their way to holiday dinners at the fire station, Easter dinner at church, and plenty of dinners around our own table. They’re one of those recipes I know I can make for a crowd and not have to worry about how they’re going to turn out. And if I’m feeding a crowd, I’d much rather have too many homemade rolls than not enough.
If homemade rolls have always felt like too much work for a weeknight, this is the recipe I’d start with. One hour, simple ingredients, no added sugar, and warm homemade rolls at the end of it. There’s a reason I keep coming back to this one.

minutesIngredients
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup milk (I use whole)
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon extra butter for brushing on top
Here's how you do it
- Heat water, milk and butter in microwave safe bowl until roughly 110* Add honey and yeast and wait 5 minutes to activate.
- Add yeast mixture to flour and salt. Knead for 10 minutes using stand mixture or by hand. Dough should not be overly sticky. Allow dough to rest in a covered bowl for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400*. Form dough into small balls (about the size of a clementine orange). Arrange in a greased baking dish or baking sheet. The dough should perfectly make 15 dough balls. Cover and allow to rise for an additional 15 minutes.
- Bake 15 mintutes or until lightly golden brown on top. Internal temp of rolls should be 190*-200* Brush with butter and serve warm.
Notes
- I love to double this recipe and bring it to dinner events. 30 rolls fit perfectly on a large baking sheet. A textured baking sheet creates air flow, ensuring the rolls bake evenly all around.

Easy bank and wonderful taste and texture.
So happy you enjoyed them!
I dont see honey in the instructions.
thank you for pointing that out! I’ve fixed it 🙂
