Cookies & Cream Rolls

If You’ve made my 90 Minute Cinnamon Rolls before, you already know how much I love this recipe. They’re soft, fluffy, and—most importantly—don’t require me to dedicate half of my day to waiting for dough to rise. So naturally, I decided to take a perfectly good thing and add Oreos.

Enter: Cookies and Cream Rolls.

These use the exact same dough as my tried-and-true 90 minute cinnamon rolls, so we aren’t reinventing the wheel here. The magic is all in the filling.

Instead of the traditional cinnamon and brown sugar filling, these babies get a cookies & cream situation with crushed Oreos rolled right into that soft dough. You still get all those buttery, gooey layers you want in a cinnamon roll, except now there are little pieces of chocolate cookie tucked into every swirl.

And because apparently Oreos inside the rolls weren’t enough, I changed up the frosting too. The finished rolls get covered in a cookies & cream frosting with even more crushed Oreos on top. At this point we’re basically seeing how many Oreos we can fit into one pan of cinnamon rolls, and I see absolutely no problem with that.

The best part is that these still come together in an hour and a half, just like the original. No overnight rise, no waking up at 5 a.m. because you promised everyone cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Just make the dough, fill it with all that cookies & cream goodness, roll it up, slice, rise, bake and frost.

They’re soft, gooey, chocolatey, a little ridiculous, and exactly the kind of recipe my family gets excited about when they see me pulling out the Oreos.

If you’re looking for a new dessert to try, consider this your sign to switch it up. Because sometimes a classic cinnamon roll is exactly what you need…and sometimes you need to crush a bunch of Oreos into it. Both can be true.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 4 tbsp butter (room temp)

  • 1 large egg (room temp)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • FILLING
  • 4 tbsp butter (room temp)

  • 12 Crushed Oreo cookies (1 cup)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 of the oreo cream filling

  • VANILLA FROSTING
  • 1/2 cup butter (room temp)

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1-2 tbsp milk

  • 1/2 of the oreo cream filling

Here's how you do it

  • Combine milk, sugar, and butter. Warm to approx 110* and add your yeast. Allow to bloom 10ish minutes.
  • Combine yeast mixture with flour, salt and egg. Knead 10 minutes. Spray a bowl and let your dough rest 20-30 minutes.
  • On floured surface, roll out your dough into a rectangle 12"x18". This will create the perfect size and thickness for 9 cinnamon rolls! Preheat oven to 200*
  • While your dough is resting, mix your filling! Spread it all over your rectangle. It will take some dedication but it will cover the whole rectangle.
  • Cut strips 2" across the 18" length to make 9 equal strips. Roll each strip up and place in a greased 9x9 pan. Repeat until all strips are rolled.
  • Cover your pan and place in the preheated oven. TURN OVEN OFF & crack it open. Allow to rise for 30 minutes.
  • Remove cinnamon rolls from oven and then preheat to 350*. Bake rolls for 30 minutes or internal temp of 190*. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • While your rolls are cooling, prepare your frosting. Frost cinnamon rolls 20-30 minutes after baking and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • you can easily prepare these the day before consuming and bake the day of. After placing your rolls in a 9x9 pan, cover and refigerate. When you're ready to bake, preheat oven to 200* and let cinnamon rolls rise for 30 minutes, then proceed as usual.
  • I like to save a few tablespoons of oreo crumb to add to my frosting!
  • You can cut the dough strips smaller in size (1 1/2" instead of 2") and get an even dozen.
